Good Question! A new series reflecting on the life changing questions of Jesus
Most of you know, I am an ordained pastor. For a long time, I was a traditional pastor serving in a series of traditional pastoral roles. A number of years ago, however, I started asking myself a bunch of questions about life, leadership, and ministry. Those questions led me down a different route than that of a traditional pastor. I stepped away from the traditional route in pursuit of something different, something that fits the way God uniquely created me to serve and lead.
Today, I am an intentionally bivocational pastor of a young church start-up, The Hills Church. At the Hills, we do not employ any traditional, full-time, paid ministry leaders or pastors. We are all just regular people who work in the public market place, leading and creating as God has uniquely gifted us, to earn our living while serving a congregation which heavily emphasizes the priesthood of all believers.
That being said, I still speak nearly every Sunday as the primary pastor and leader of our congregation. With the dawn of 2023, I’m committing myself to doing a better job of making my public speaking and teachings more accessible. My goal is to upload both clips and full length videos of my messages offered at The Hills Church every Sunday, as well as any ancillary speaking opportunities throughout the year. The videos might be uploaded up to a week after the messages were first offered (remember, I actually work for a living - haha!) but they will get posted. If you’d like to watch the services live, you can always tune into the church’s Facebook page where we broadcast every Sunday starting around 10AM.
Due to a significant percentage of our congregation struggling with sickness, the year started a little late for us at The Hills. Thus my first message of the year wasn’t offered until midway through the month.
On January 15, I offered the first message in a series of lessons we’re calling “Good question!” In this series we’re reflecting on the life changing questions Jesus asked people throughout his life and ministry. The first is a reflection on the question Jesus asked Mary and Joseph when he was just 12 years old after going missing for a few days. It’s a question that forces us to ask ourselves where we should be and what we should be doing in our life and faith. I pray it encourages you as we head into the new year.
