Judges: Excuses

The Book of Judges is a hard book of the Bible to read. It's a repetitive, ever worsening "dumpster fire" of stories following the early development of Israel as a nation. The young nation simply couldn’t help itself. They repeatedly forgot God's clear and decisive instructions leading to untold suffering only to cry out for help and repent of their sins when God raised a series of leaders called judges to lead and restore them. The stories are increasingly chaotic and many of the "heroes," the judges, were just as broken as the people they sought to lead.

Sound familiar? There's a lot of crossover between the world told of in the Book of Judges and our own. Hence, this teaching series...

This first message in the new series "Judges" introduces the context into which the judges are called while also considering the Israelites' many excuses for their disobedience to God's clear instruction. The excuses start small, but ultimately lead to outright rebellion and rejection of God.

Again, sound familiar?

This sermon was preached at The Hills Church which meets in South Park, Allegheny County, PA. We're a family-centric and congregationally-led church meeting in the park every Sunday throughout the year. Click the link above for more about our ministry.
