Grace: It’s Better than Religion (a quarantined reflection on Galatians 4:8-20), 14 June 2020

I used to look up to very religious people as being more spiritually mature than me. Seriously. People who followed all the dotted all the I’s and crossed all the T’s of religious observance appeared to have achieved a level of religious devoutness far greater than one I ever could. But, then I read Paul’s letter to the Galatians. Paul makes a pretty serious claim in today’s passage. Paul argues that following strict religious laws and traditions and demanding others do the same is tantamount to returning to a sinfully, immoral lifestyle.

The more I reflect on Paul’s words in Galatians the more grateful I am for grace. Grace is what restores us to God and it is also what matures us as followers of Jesus. Join Kavan and me as we worship and reflect upon the God of ceaseless grace.
